‘And Just Like That’ Lisa dead dad storyline cleared up after fan confusion (exclusive)

Warning: This article contains spoilers from And Just Like That season 3, episode 6, “Silent Mode.”

An And Just Like That season 3 mystery has been solved.

A recent episode left some fans thinking a major plot hole was in their midsts after the Sex and the City sequel series revealed that Lisa Todd Wexley’s (Nicole Ari Parker) dad died — two seasons after she initially told Charlotte (Kristin Davis) she lost her father. “I was exactly the same when my father died last year,” the character had said in season 1 with regards to the death of Big (Chris Noth).

In terms of how this makes sense in the story, the dad referenced in season 1 was LTW’s stepdad, Entertainment Weekly has learned, not her biological dad, who was portrayed in season 2 by Billy Dee Williams.

Last week’s episode 6, titled “Silent Mode,” saw LTW learning about her father’s death at the age of 90 from a stroke. She then has to contend with Lucille Highwater (Jenifer Lewis), the general manager of her late dad’s theater who is planning the funeral.

Over the Fourth of July holiday weekend, fans shared their confusion about the moment. “Did ChatGPT write these episodes?” one one Twitter/X poster commented.

“Not And Just Like That killing Lisa Tod Wexley’s father twice!” read another. “@HBO Do you even care? Please pay attention!”

There have been similar conundrums with the show in the past, such as when Rosemarie DeWitt showed up as Aidan’s ex-wife, Kathy, after playing a completely different role on Sex and the City, Fern, Miranda’s former law firm colleague. Actors William Abadie and Peter Hermann also ended up playing different characters on Sex and the City and And Just Like That.

Parker recently commented on the episode 6 development with Lisa’s dad in an interview with Variety.

“It comes as a surprise, and like any human, losing someone you love is earth-shattering, no matter how old you are,” the actress said. “It does shake her ground in a way that makes her a little bit more focused — maybe a little hyper-focused. And now her marriage is, you know, not in trouble, but someone else can get her attention in this vulnerable place. So I think the death made her unsteady in a way that she might not even realize.”
