‘And Just Like That’ brings Andy Cohen back as ‘SATC’ shoe salesman

This article contains spoilers for And Just Like That season 3, episode 9, “Present Tense.”

In the real world, Andy Cohen spends his days hosting Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live and wrangling/provoking shouty women on Real Housewives reunions. But in the Sex and the City universe, Cohen has spent the last 21 years working as a shoe salesman who’s on a first-name basis with Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker).

The Bravolebrity popped up briefly in Thursday’s episode of HBO Max’s SATC sequel And Just Like That, during a scene set in the shoe department of a fancy department store. “Hey Carrie! I am slammed, but I’m going to be right with you,” he says, hurrying past Miss Bradshaw with a stack of shoeboxes in his hand. “Oh, thanks,” she replies. “I’m just looking today, Daniel.”

EW can confirm that “Daniel” is, in fact, the same shoe salesman Cohen played back in 2004, in the season 6 SATC episode “Let There Be Light.” In one of that episode’s subplots, Charlotte (Kristin Davis) tries to volunteer with an organization that provides guides for the blind. The coordinator (Bayne Gibby) instructs her to visit a public place blindfolded and let a friend lead her around so she can see what it’s like to navigate the world without sight. Naturally, Charlotte chooses Barneys department store, and she brings Carrie along as her guide. And naturally, Carrie gets distracted and wanders off to the shoe department — where Andy Cohen’s salesman helps her try on an armload of heels.

This time around, Carrie is browsing the shoe department under much less amusing circumstances. In Thursday’s episode of And Just Like That, she and Aidan (John Corbett) get into a fight over Carrie’s downstairs neighbor, Duncan (Jonathan Cake) — and Aidan’s fears that Carrie and her fellow author have more than just a working relationship.

After shouting at each other in the kitchen, Carrie goes for a walk to clear her head and winds up perusing shoes at Daniel’s place of employment. The episode ends with Carrie and Aidan breaking up (again). Will the third split be the charm for these ill-suited lovers? Whatever happens, at least we know Daniel will always be there to console Carrie with some retail therapy.

And Just Like That airs Thursdays on HBO Max.
