‘America’s Got Talent’ features husband and wife comedians

America’s Got Talent contestant Matt O’Brien, a comedian originally from Toronto, left the judges laughing on Tuesday’s episode, joking about how he was glad that he was married and not single.

Then another stand-up, also from Canada, Julia Hladkowicz, walked out to do her own routine.

Did she know the guy who was just on and won four yes votes?

“Yeah, I know Matt a bit because he’s my husband,” Hladkowicz said breezily, before O’Brien ran back onstage to give her a kiss.

She then launched into jokes about how men snoring is the patriarchy, such as, “You’re already asleep. You already won. Why do you have to add a soundtrack to it?”

‘America’s Got Talent’ is judged by Howie Mandel, Mel B, Sofia Vergara, and Simon Cowell.

Judge Howie Mandel asked the other judges — Mel B, Simon Cowell, and Sofia Vergara — if they could imagine the couple’s household.

“That’s all I kept thinking about,” Cowell answered.

Then he gave her props: “That was hard, what you just did, actually, following your husband, because he did get a yes, and secretly one of you probably wants to be the only one to get a yes.”

Hladkowicz attempted to shut down that line of thinking.

“No, absolutely not,” she answered. “Simon, in what world would I want my husband not to get yeses?”

After Cowell retorted, “my world,” she repeated the line in his British accent.

Everyone laughed, so the judge took back his words and told her that, regardless, she was funny.

Vergara agreed.

“I was laughing from the beginning to the end,” the Modern Family alum said. “I think you deserve to be on the stage, too. You’re as good as him, maybe even better.”

At that, Hladkowicz looked at O’Brien backstage and told him, “All right, we’re getting a divorce, Simon. Is that what you wanted?”

Before Hladkowicz left the stage, Mel B declared, “You are my kind of girl. I loved you from the get-go. I wanted to hear more. And my cheeks are actually aching right now. I really like you. I love you!”

Unfortunately, the couple will not move on to the Live Shows; while the judges advanced the duo on the show, the final auditions of season 20 were revealed later in the episode, and O’Brien and Hladkowicz’s names were not among the 44 acts selected to move on to the Live Shows.

The Live Shows begin Aug. 19 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. A live results show will air Aug. 20 at the same time and place.
