Amazon reserves RX 9070 XT and RTX 5070 for Prime members to curb scalpers

Amazon reserves RX 9070 XT and RTX 5070 for Prime members to curb scalpers

Faced with the continuing limited availability of AMD RDNA 4 and NVIDIA RTX 50 series graphics cards, some vendors are adopting new measures to curb sales. On Amazon, the RX 9070 XT (Sapphire, XFX) and RTX 5070 (ASUS) models are now only available to Amazon Prime members.

This subscription requirement would, they claim, limit mass purchases by scalpers, without however excluding them altogether.

The cards concerned are sold at prices well above their launch price: over $1,000 for the RX 9070 XT and over $700 for the RTX 5070. Despite this barrier to entry, stocks are quickly sold out at each restocking.

The best long-term solution is for AMD and NVIDIA to increase production volumes.
