Albion Online’s Abyssal Depth update challenges you with PvP extraction gameplay, out now

- Albion Online’s latest update, Abyssal Depths, is out now
- Take on a PvP extraction dungeon and curry favour with the Antiquarian for rewards
- A refreshed new player experience makes starting out in Albion Online simpler than ever
With its mixture of challenging PvE and PvP, plus a persistent, player-driven economy and vast open world to establish yourself in, there’s a reason Albion Online has caught a small but enthusiastic niche. And now, if you savour the challenge that this fantasy world presents, you have even more to contend with, as the Abyssal Depths open wide in the update of the same name!
The core of the Abyssal Depths update is, naturally, the depths themselves. Doubtless inspired by the hit extraction dungeon crawler Dark and Darker, Abyssal Depths puts you in the midst of a dungeon at constant risk of collapse. You’ll need to fight your way through players and monsters to extract safely and gain rewards.
Don’t worry, though, you won’t be risking your equipment in the depths. But if you want the curry favour with the Antiquarian and gain access to the rewards he offers in his den, you’ll have to adopt a take-no-prisoners approach to make it out.
Structurally unsound
Fortunately, if you’re just starting out and dreading the challenge of adapting to Albion Online’s high-risk, high-reward style of PvP, then you need not fret. Because developer Sandbox Interactive have taken the opportunity here to improve the new player experience dramatically.
There’s an improved tutorial with clearer goals and rewards to go along with them. The Character Progression category, meanwhile, will offer long-term achievements, as well as some ‘extremely prestigious’ awards (cue for the ‘ooh’). But even if you’re a veteran, the addition of more goodies such as the Truebolt Hammer and Stillgaze Staff will be sure to sweeten the pot.
