*”Modern Family” star Adam Devine recently opened up about a harrowing health scare stemming from a childhood accident.

For years, Devine has endured chronic pain stemming from an accident at age 11, when a cement truck struck him. In a candid interview on the Deep Dive with Sarah Kline podcast, he revealed the toll this has taken, describing full-body spasms and discomfort whether he sits, stands, or walks for extended periods.

Devine recounted a grim conversation with his doctors last year: “They told me I was dying. Literally, within this last year, they told me that. They told me I had this disease called stiff-person syndrome,” he explained. “And that’s when your muscles get so tight that you then, you can no longer walk. You can no longer move, then your heart will stop beating because your heart is a muscle and it gets too tight to beat, and then you die.”

However, a second opinion brought relief and a new perspective. Devine consulted a specialist who disagreed with the initial diagnosis, saying, “You don’t have it. You do not have it.”

The expert attributed the symptoms to the lingering effects of the accident, explaining, “This is from your accident, from when you were a child. The spasms are a little unexplainable, but it could just be you got so tight that your body doesn’t know what to do with it. So, you’re misfiring a little bit.”

Since undergoing stem cell therapy, Devine reports feeling better than he has in years.
