The Switch 2 Joy-Con don't feature Hall Effect joysticks

The Switch 2 Joy-Con don't feature Hall Effect joysticks

For its next console, Nintendo had to improve the quality of its controllers, and more specifically its joysticks. After all, the first Switch is plagued by the drift phenomenon, which can be very detrimental to gameplay.

So, before the Switch 2 was unveiled, rumors were circulating that the Joy-Con 2s would feature Hall Effect, a non-contact technology that radically reduces component wear making the joysticks are even more durable.

Unfortunately, Nate Bihldorff, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Product Development and Publishing, has announced that the Switch 2 won’t feature Hall Effect.

"Well, the Joy-Con 2’s controllers have been designed from the ground up. They’re not Hall Effect sticks, but they feel really good."

Still, the joysticks on the Switch 2 will be larger and more resistant than those on the Switch 1.
