Pokémon TCG Pocket finally tackles trading in new update, but it’s not coming until autumn

  • Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket has announced new changes to trading
  • Trading Tokens are being dumped entirely, replaced with Shinedust
  • Future changes to Shinedust are planned, and more

While Pokémon TCG Pocket was an exciting launch for many, it sadly didn’t take long for its first major stumbling block to arrive in the form of Trading. This hotly-anticipated feature was bungled due to the necessity of hard-to-obtain currency and the numerous restrictions on what could be traded with whom, but a new update makes promises to fix that.

To start, Trade Tokens are being removed in their entirety and you won’t need to exchange cards to get the currency required for trading. Instead, trading cards of three-diamond, four-diamond and one-star rarity will now require Shinedust, which you’ll acquire when you open a booster pack and receive a card already registered in your Card Dex.

Trade Tokens you currently own can be converted to shinedust, meanwhile, since shinedust is also needed to obtain flair there are further alterations in the works. And another upcoming update will let you share cards you’re interested in trading via the in-game function.

As I wrote a long while back, it seems as if trading was introduced in a way that was half-hearted at best. The problem here and the solution, is that trading in-game (by necessity) requires more restriction than in real life to prevent abuse because of the differences in a digital ecosystem.

Add onto that the fact that these changes aren’t coming until (or at least by) autumn, and we’re only in spring, which means that despite the fact that Pokémon TCG Pocket has taken notice of these issues it seems as if the team behind it are tackling it much slower than many would prefer.

In the meantime if you’re not looking to jump back into Pokémon TCG Pocket just yet, why not try out some of the releases we’ve listed on our latest feature covering the top five new mobile games to try this week?
