Maul – Shadow Lord Series Unveils First Image

If you’ve only seen the Star Wars films, Darth Maul was a seriously cool-looking villain from The Phantom Menace who promptly got sliced in two by Obi-Wan Kenobi – never to be seen again until he (somehow) returned in the final moments of Solo: A Star Wars Story. But those who’ve seen The Clone Wars and Rebels will know there’s much, much more to Maul’s story. He survived being bisected, got spider-robot legs, then got regular-robot legs, sought some Sith artefacts, tried to corrupt the young Ezra Bridger, and eventually had a rematch with Kenobi (sorry, “Keno-bayyy!”) on Tatooine. And amid all that? He became a crime boss too.

That part of Maul’s long and winding road will be the focus of his upcoming headline animated series, Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord – exploring how the former Sith apprentice became the head of the Crimson Dawn crime syndicate in the galaxy’s expansive underworld. While the show was announced earlier this year at Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo, fans now have a first official look at the show, with a shot of Maul wielding his legendary double-bladed lightsaber.

Further details on the show are scarce, but Sam Witwer is returning to voice Maul, Matt Michnovetz is head writer, and Dave Filoni serves as its creator. It’s expected to hit Disney+ in 2026 – more than enough time, then, to catch up on Clone Wars and Rebels if you haven’t seen them yet.
