Naomi Osaka Documentary ‘The Second Set’ Finds Home with Tubi

*Naomi Osaka fans will be able to see the journey surrounding her return to pro tennis via a new documentary picked up by Tubi.
The film, titled “The Second Set,” will provide “an intimate look into the life of Osaka as she navigates balancing her career with first-time motherhood and is described as a love letter to her daughter, Shai,” according to a synopsis from the documentary’s producers.
“This film is special to me because I’ve learned so much about life through Shai and she brings me so much joy. I’ll always look fondly on this period of our lives,” Osaki said in a statement.
Tubi’s acquisition of “The Second Set” and its upcoming premiere mark Osaka’s latest achievement as one of tennis’ most recognizable names after defeating Serena Williams to win the U.S. Open women’s title in 2018.
While the victory was a certified moment with fame to follow, it came at a cost to Osaka, who found herself balancing her status as the best tennis player in the world with maintaining her mental health and confidence on-court. Interfering with her mental well-being were bouts of anxiety over mandatory tournament press conferences, the Hollywood Reporter noted.

Producing duties for “The Second Set” are handled by Nike and Osaka’s media and production company, Hana Kuma.
Nike and Osaka are no strangers to each other as the athletic brand has a running shoes and clothing line with the tennis great.
Onboard for the documentary is Lebron James, who serves as an executive producer, alongside fellow EP’s Maverick Carter Jamal Henderson and Philip Byron from Fulwell Entertainment’s Uninterrupted.
“The Second Set” is the first title resulting from a multiyear distribution partnership between Tubi and Uninterrupted for athlete-focused sports and culture stories.
Naomi Osaka’s “The Second Set” documentary is set to premiere in August on Tubi.
