*A quarter century since their hit duet, “The Boy Is Mine” sat atop the charts, Brandy and Monica are celebrating it’s impact and the fans who it and them with a joint tour.

The 24-city The Boy Is Mine Tour, will launch in Cincinnati on Oct. 16, with stops planned in Atlanta, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, St. Louis, Brooklyn, Detroit, and New Orleans before wrapping up in Houston on Dec. 7.

In addition to the co-headliners, Kelly Rowland, Muni Long and 2025 American Idol winner Jamal Roberts will be hitting the road for the trek.

For Brandy, the tour marks “a full-circle moment,” one that goes beyond the music.

Brandy added:  “‘The Boy Is Mine’ was a defining chapter in R&B, and to share the stage all these years later is bigger than a reunion; it’s a celebration of growth, sisterhood, and the love our fans have given us from day one.”

“The love that ‘The Boy Is Mine’ continues to receive means everything to me,” Monica said. “This tour is a celebration of our history, our impact, and the fans who have grown with us.

She also said: “Brandy and I have been on our own unique journeys, and coming back together in this way is a reminder of the power of respect, strength, and real music. We’re giving the people what they’ve been asking for, and doing it with grace, love, and purpose. God’s timing perfectly aligned us.”

Released on May 4, 1998, “The Boy is Mine” was the lead single for Brandy and Monica’s respective second albums, “Never Say Never” and “The Boy Is Mine.”

The popular tune spent 13 weeks on top of the Billboard charts

News of the tour comes as Brandy and Monica opened up about their infamous years-long feud to “CBS Mornings.” Despite interest in Monica and Brandy performing live together on the road going back as far as 1998, it was not meant to be back then

According to People, the duo was set to perform their hit at the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards but got into a fight backstage while rehearsing for the performance

Of course, touring back then wasn’t likely, as Brandy and Monica weren’t exactly on good terms. After the release of their hit duet, the duo famously had a fight backstage while rehearsing for a performance at the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards. Their feud persisted for years.

“It started as nothing and it really did turn into something,” Monica recalled. ” There was a lot of confusion and conflict and there was a lot of people around.”

Breaking it down further, Brandy and Monica brought in the age factor as they were young when their beef jumped off as well as located in different areas in the country. For Brandy, it was Los Angeles while Monica lived in Atlanta.

“People forget too, I was 17, she was 18 when we did the record. People forget that you’re having this conversation about children, basically. You’re inciting a riot amongst children! We were teenagers.” Said Monica, acknowledged that her and Brandy, “didn’t really know each other.”

With age and beefing, it’s more than enough to stir the pot. But the most obvious angle, as People mentioned, was the song itself. Check the title.

“The song didn’t help either,” said Brandy. “We were fighting over a boy!”

“And we don’t even like the same type of boy,” Monica joked. “There could never have been a boy!”

Fortunately, clear communication was what ended the feud after years of not talking, in addition to a memorable battle on Verzuz in 2020.

From there, the path was open for Brandy and Monica to collaborate again via the song, “It All Belongs to Me.” The duo’s goodwill even generated a Grammy nomination for the remix to Ariana Grande’s 2024 reimagining of “The Boy Is Mine” as well as a surprise appearance on the song’s music video.

With the tour in sight, working and communicating together is the order as Brandy and Monica try to create a suitable setlist for fans.

“That part is hard,” Monica said on CBS Mornings. “We want to give them everything that they want, but we can’t keep you there all night. So we have to figure out a way to condense this into two hours of just a celebration of music, celebration of womanhood.”
