It’s now official: Perfect Dark will not be coming out. Microsoft has confirmed it being cancelled and the closure of The Initiative studio. As if that weren’t enough, a Kotaku journalist reported another rumor.
In June 2024, during its showcase, Xbox had broadcast a gameplay demonstration of Perfect Dark. The sequence was well received, particularly in terms of graphics. The video has been viewed over 800,000 times on YouTube, which is far from a bad figure.
Except that Kotaku’s reporter claims to have heard that the demo was actually a fake. It was allegedly created entirely for the purposes of the Xbox Games Showcase and did not represent the actual rendering of the game.
Of course, we’ll have to treat this as a rumor until we have further information.
