‘Big Brother’ winner Mike ‘Boogie’ Malin arrested for alleged shoplifting at CVS

Big Brother star Mike “Boogie” Malin has had another run-in with the law.

The 54-year-old reality TV personality, whose legal name is Mike Malin Breitner, was arrested at a CVS store in Southern California on Jan. 29 after allegedly shoplifting from a different CVS location nearby, Burbank Police Department confirmed to Entertainment Weekly on Friday. TMZ first reported the news.

At the first CVS location, at 1820 W. Verdugo Ave., a witness eventually identified Malin as the suspect who stole two bottles of alcohol and energy drinks, police said. An employee from that store stated that he confronted Malin outside and told him he needed to pay for the items he’d taken. Malin is then said to have re-entered the store with the items, placed them on the ground just inside the store, and left in his vehicle.

According to police, “Officers understand that suspects will often target multiple stores of the same brand when committing thefts. Knowing that, an additional Burbank PD unit responded to the CVS located at 511 N. Hollywood Way and located Breitner’s unoccupied vehicle parked along the sidewalk just adjacent to the store.” Police said they found his car running with hazard lights on, and a short time later, he approached officers on foot. He was then detained pending a theft investigation.

A CVS employee then signed a citizen’s arrest form for the theft. Malin was later transported to a Burbank jail where he was booked on charges of misdemeanor theft and released on a citation to appear in court at a later date.

This is not Malin’s first brush with legal trouble. In 2019, he was found guilty of felony stalking his Big Brother costar Will Kirby. He was sentenced to two years of probation and ordered to pay Kirby $44,000, according to PEOPLE.

Malin first gained recognition on Big Brother season 2 by becoming the first houseguest to win a Head of Household competition. He returned to the show in 2006 for its seventh season, where he won. Malin returned to the show yet again in 2012 as a coach but was eliminated early in the season.

Fellow Big Brother alums expressed their concern for Malin on social media after news of his arrest broke earlier this week. “I was the last person to arrive at the Big Brother 15 wrap party because I was talking with the producers,” season 15 winner Andy Herren wrote. “Upon entering, the first thing I encountered was blacked-out Mike Boogie hitting on my mom. It was very surreal. Hope he is able to get the help he clearly needs.”

Meanwhile, Janelle Pierzina of seasons 6, 7, 14 and 22, wrote, “I hope Mike Boogie gets the help he needs. I’ve always hoped that for him.”
