The big question on many people’s minds this weekend: why did Sydney Sweeney attend the wedding of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez? The easy answer, of course, is “why not?” The guest list at the world’s most talked-about nuptials included many of the best-known faces on the international scene. According to an American tabloid, though, her presence might have had a simple explanation.
According to Page Six, the actress may soon be starring in a film for Bezos’s Amazon MGM Studios. A source close to the 27-year-old told the outlet that though Sweeney “is not friends with either one of them,” she “came to pay respects to the ‘boss,’ just like in the old days of Hollywood.” Vanity Fair has reached out to both Sweeney and Amazon MGM for comment.
It is not yet official which project, exactly, Sweeney is expected to be involved in, but Variety reported in April that she is attached to a film adaptation of the video game Split Fiction, about two authors who become trapped in their own creation. The film would be directed by Wicked filmmaker Jon M.Chu, with a script by the writers of Deadpool & Wolverine. Sweeney is also expected to produce the project.
According to Variety, the project is seeking a co-star for Sweeney. Perhaps a candidate for this role was also in Venice, raising a toast to Mr. and Mrs. Bezos.
