Todd and Julie Chrisley reveal reactions to their Trump pardons

Todd and Julie Chrisley are opening up about the presidential pardon that got them out of prison.

In a preview clip from their first sit-down television appearance since their release, the Chrisley Knows Best stars and their children Savannah and Grayson reveal to Lara Trump their immediate reactions to first hearing the news in May.

“I called Savannah one more time, and she said, ‘He did it, he signed it,'” Julie recalls, referring to President Donald Trump. “And I just started busting out crying. And everyone was looking around. And then I just hung up. I was so nervous, I just hung up. It was the craziest thing and everybody was just looking at me because unfortunately, most of the news that you get in prison is bad news, you know, so they’re like, ‘Are you okay?’ I’m like, ‘I am. I’m getting out of here. I’m getting out of here.'”

Todd, meanwhile, recalls not even believing the news at first. “This guy stops me and goes, ‘Man, I think you just got pardoned,'” he says. “And I said, ‘Yeah, okay.’ And I just kept on walking. And so when I went into my dorm, one of the guys, the COs, he came by and he goes, ‘Are you good?’ And I said, ‘As good as I can be.’ And he said, ‘Todd, you just got pardoned. They sent me down here to make sure you’re okay.’ And I said, ‘Well, they don’t need to be worrying about me now. Hell, if I’m pardoned, I’m great.'”

Todd adds that he’s especially thankful for the pardon. “We owe thanks to God, and God touched President Trump’s heart,” he says. “God led the people to advocate for us. And so I’m grateful because every night I would pray that God would return me home to my wife and my children. And he did that, so I’m grateful.”

The reality TV personalities were convicted on bank fraud and tax evasion charges in 2022. Todd was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison, while Julie was sentenced to seven years. Prior to their pardon, the Chrisleys’ attempts to appeal their sentences were unsuccessful, with Julie being re-sentenced to seven years in September, leading to their eldest daughter, Savannah, to call on Trump for a pardon.

Last month, the White House shared a phone call in which Trump told the Chrisley children that he was pardoning Todd and Julie. “Your parents are going to be free and clean, and I hope that we can do it by tomorrow,” Trump could be heard saying in a video posted to social media by White House aide Margo Martin on May 27. “I don’t know them, but give them my regards and wish them good luck,” he added.
