Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is no longer the highest-rated game of 2025 by the press

Sandfall Interactive’s title has lost its crown! With an average score of 93% on Metacritic, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was previously the highest-rated game of 2025.

The RPG now ranks third, as the Switch 2 versions of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild take first and second place respectively. One has an average score of 95%, the other 93%.

Of course, this ranking is open to debate, given that both games were actually released in 2023 and 2017. In addition, Tears of the Kingdom on Switch 2 has only nine reviews and Breath of the Wild eleven.

However, neither of these remasters should be eligible for this years’ GOTY award. In this respect, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 isn’t done just yet.
