Man with disability killed in his own home at public housing complex in Adelaide

A woman has been charged with murder after a man with a disability was found allegedly stabbed to death at a public housing complex.

The same woman is also facing several other charges after allegedly smashing her way into the home of a former Channel 7 personality who lives next door to the Bentzen Court complex at Gilberton in Adelaide’s inner-northern suburbs.

Jan Beasley, who once hosted Seven’s AM Adelaide, and her husband, John, were at home when they say a woman “covered in blood” smashed through their fence.

In CCTV footage, the couple can be heard telling the woman to get away from their home.

The woman can be heard yelling “they’re going to kill me”.

She had allegedly only minutes before stabbed a disabled man to death in his unit at the Housing Trust SA complex.

Andrew Sorby-Adams, 65, was found dead in his unit at the Bentzen Court complex on Walkerville Tce after his carer called SA Ambulance for a welfare check.

The carer said he had gone to the shops but was unable to re-enter the unit when he returned.

It is alleged paramedics found Sorby-Adams with multiple stab wounds.

7NEWS.com.au understands Sorby-Adams was living by himself and had been a resident at the complex for decades.

Jan Beasley told 7NEWS the Housing Trust SA complex needed better management.

Security has previously been posted to the complex in 2018 over anti-social behaviour.

“Something has to change … honestly and truly … everybody in this neighbourhood is scared to death,” she said.

“I mean 30 years … how would you like to live next to that for 30 years, and you can’t go out your back gate.

Acting Superintendent Damien Eichner on Tuesday said a 30-year-old woman was arrested and taken for a mental health assessment.

She appeared in Adelaide Magistrates Court by phone link from an undisclosed medical facility and did not enter pleas to charges including murder and property damage.

The woman’s identity was suppressed, and she did not seek bail, with her next appearance pending the outcome of the mental health assessment.
