Don’t trust its title — Nobody Wants This is one of Netflix’s biggest hits of the last several years, having landed on the streamer’s TV charts in 89 countries.
Adam Brody and Kristen Bell star as a progressive rabbi and an agnostic sex podcaster whose unexpected romance throws a wrench in their lives. The rom-com series was partly inspired by creator Erin Foster’s own conversion to Judaism after linking up with her husband, music executive Simon Tikhman.
“‘Write what you know’ is a trope in writing, but it’s true: when you’ve lived in an experience, you can pull specificity from it,” Foster previously told Entertainment Weekly. “When I went through the conversion process, it felt like it would be a fascinating impetus for a really good show.”
Audiences are hungry for more after binge-watching season 1, but will there be a season 2 of Nobody Wants This? What will it be about? Here’s everything we know about Nobody Wants This season 2.
Will there be a season 2 of Nobody Wants This?

Yes, Netflix announced a season 2 of Nobody Wants This shortly after its September 2024 premiere.
It was always Foster’s plan for the show to follow Brody’s Noah and Bell’s Joanne across multiple seasons. “I absolutely want another season of the show,” Foster told EW ahead of season 1’s debut. “And I definitely wrote it with a second or third season in mind, because I got plans for Joanne.”

Throughout season 1, Nobody Wants This explored the many obstacles, from specters of the past to familial disputes to career anxieties, facing Noah and Joanne’s budding romance.
It culminated with Joanne deciding that, despite her feelings for him, she’s not ready to convert to Judaism. This complicates things for Noah, who is then forced to choose between the relationship and a position as head rabbi at Temple Chai. He chooses Joanne, which will no doubt lead to some handwringing about his faith and interfaith relationships.

While there’s no official plot synopsis for season 2, Brody and Bell teased that season 2 of Nobody Wants This will broaden the scope of the story as it delves into a more “domesticated” Noah and Joanne.
“I have been very happy, excited, satisfied, surprised. I’ve loved it,” Brody said of season 2’s scripts on EW’s Awardist podcast. “They’ve all done such a wonderful job continuing and expanding. And I think if you like the first, you’ll be very happy with the second season. I know I am.”
“I have to be very careful with my words. I think the ‘Oh my God’ moments won’t necessarily be about us,” Bell told EW when asked about season 2. “The world has been built out beautifully in a very grounded, realistic way. Because, look, you fall in love with someone and for a while it’s just you and them. The world doesn’t exist. And then slowly the world starts peeking in and you two have to coexist in the world that sometimes can be shocking.”
Speaking with Vanity Fair in June 2025, Brody said, “My fear was, one of the things that worked so well in the first season is the romance and all these firsts that are so naturally romantic and sexy: first kiss, first time being with each other, first breakup, first makeup, et cetera. Now that we’re a little more domesticated, will it still have that spark? I think it does, but we’ll see.”

The struggles of navigating an interfaith relationship are bound to surface in season 2, and Brody touched on the topic as part of Variety‘s Actors on Actors series with Amanda Seyfried.
“In terms of the interfaith relationship, I think it’s been relatable,” he said. “So many people have come up to me and said, ‘My wife is a shiksa.’ We’re a great stand-in for any differences between two people, philosophical or cultural. When you merge two individuals, growth and compromise is what you have to navigate.”
Girls alums Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan will take over as showrunners on season 2, replacing Foster, who will remain an executive producer and writer.
“They’ve really committed to trying to isolate what people want from these characters in this show and not just trying to make it … it’s not like we just got a bigger budget and now there’s a bunch of fancy stuff happening,” Bell told EW. “It’s very small. It’s very intimate. It’s very real life. And I commend them for that.”
Who’s in the Nobody Wants This season 2 cast?
Adam Rose/Netflix
In addition to Bell and Brody, season 2 will welcome back Emily Arlook, Paul Ben-Victor, Shiloh Berman, Sherry Cola, Stephanie Faracy, Tovah Feldshuh, Michael Hitchcock, Justine Lupe, Timothy Simons, and Jackie Tohn.
New additions to the cast include Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl), Miles Fowler (Bottoms), Alex Karpovsky (Girls), and Arian Moayed (Succession).

Meester, Brody’s real-life spouse, will play Abby, a momfluencer who’s Joanne’s “middle school nemesis.”
“I said, ‘Write her something funny, I’m sure she would love to do it,’ and they wrote her something great. It wasn’t a hard decision,” Brody told Vanity Fair of Meester’s casting. “When I’m working with her, she can go as deep as anyone, and she has such clear access to her deepest emotions. But what I’ve been really impressed with, and I really started to see it in Single Parents — in the second season, I really saw her hit her stride as a comedian. To see her crush is cool.”
Per Tudum, Fowler’s Lenny is one of Noah’s Matzah Ballers teammates and a potential love interest for Morgan, Joanne’s sister, played by Lupe. Moayed’s psychotherapist, Dr. Andy, is also poised to be a “perfect match” for Morgan.
Karpovsky, meanwhile, plays a character named Big Noah, an “overly confident rabbi” at Temple Chai.
