What Is Ethical Non-Monogamy? 90 Day Fiance’s Jasmine Wants It With Gino

90 Day Fiancé star Jasmine Pineda is thinking out of the box to salvage her marriage to Gino Palazzolo. After learning about ethical non-monogamy during season 2 of 90 Day: The Last Resort, the Panama native seemingly saw it as a cure for the lack of intimacy in her marriage.

What Is Ethical Non-Monogamy?

Ethical non-monogamy is “a relationship structure where all involved parties consent to have multiple romantic or sexual relationships,” according to Simply Psychology.

90 Day Fiance’s Jasmine Wants to Practice Ethical Non-Monogamy With Gino

Jasmine learned about the term ethical non-monogamy while attending a couples’ retreat with her husband on 90 Day: The Last Resort. During the spinoff, which began airing in December 2024, the former educator sat down with a sex therapist named Reba and she discussed why she believed an open marriage with Gino would be the remedy to them staying together, despite the lack of intimacy between them.

“Sex is like the detonator of all our arguments,” Jasmine revealed to the therapist. “So in my mind, what I’m thinking is like, if we take that pressure and we get along on other things, like we could improve our communication, our coexistence in the same house. We could get along better and maybe even our intimacy will come back.”

The mom of two admitted she couldn’t see herself “building her life” without Gino, but she also couldn’t continue in a sexless marriage. The therapist reminded Jasmine that Gino said an open marriage was a “deal-breaker” for him, but also brought up her experience in practicing ethical non-monogamy.

“My husband and I have been married for nine years and we’ve practiced ethical non-monogamy all nine years,” Reba explained. “The way that our like agreement started, is not the way that is now, right? We’ve gone through many iterations of what it looks like for us to be ethically non-monogamous.”

Reba emphasized that her open relationship wasn’t all “sunshine and rainbows,” adding that it took “a lot of conversations” over the years.

“It takes really good conflict resolution skills,” the therapist explained.
“And it does take a lot of self-awareness and a lot of confidence, a lot of connection, for something like this to happen and to succeed.”

Jasmine was convinced that ethical non-monogamy could be a solution to her marriage and planned to have a conversation with Gino before the recommitment ceremony.

“The whole point of the open marriage is that eventually, my husband will be able to satisfy my sexual needs,” she told producers in a confessional. “I don’t wanna have a third person in a permanent way. I want this to be temporary. But I won’t cross any sexual boundaries unless Gino and I come to that agreement.”

Gino Considered ‘Ethical Non-Monogamy’ as Cheating

In a teaser for episode 14, Jasmine had a conversation with Gino about the open marriage, which seemingly didn’t go well as he immediately labeled non-monogamy as cheating.

“And I don’t want a cheater in my life,” Gino said as he sat next to her. “Enjoy your life.”
