20% of the games released this year on Steam used AI

This is far from new, but it’s growing alright. More and more game devs are using generative artificial intelligence to reduce development costs and speed up release.

Totally Human Media CEO Ichiro Lambe released a report this week analyzing the use of AI on Steam releases in 2025. The document shows that one game in five used these tools. According to this same data, 60% of these uses involve the generation of images, like backgrounds and models and so on.

Generative AI has also been used to create audio, marketing, text and even promotional material. Among the best-known games to use AI are inZOI, Comedy Night, Nyric and Bitmagic.

Finally, 7% of all games sold on Steam used generative AI. This represents 7,818 titles out of the 114,126 offered on Valve’s platform. About a year ago, Ichiro Lambe counted 1,000.
